MEET THE ARTIST: RONALD M. ROESCH
The multi-faceted career of Ron Roesch began in 1970. He had many successful one-man shows of his watercolors in art galleries in Los Angeles and Laguna Beach, California, and later in Scottsdale, Arizona. This resulted in lithographic reproductions of his art as greeting cards and fine art prints, and illustrations for the prestigious "Arizona Highways" magazine. Limited editions have included lithographs, serigraphs, etchings, engravings, linoleum block prints, and a series of small bronze sculptures.
In the applied arts, his efforts have ranged from a limited edition custom made automobile (Kanzler Coupe), designs for the Spacehab module and Kistler Aerospace, and award winning independent medical and ski safety films.
In 1980 Mr. Roesch began his career at Hanna-Barbera Productions painting backgrounds for many well-known series. Over the next twenty-five years he designed and painted for Warner Bros., Sony, Dreamworks, Moebius, as well as art directing for Disney. A broad understanding and 'hands on' experience with most aspects of the film making process allowed him to travel broadly as a supervisor for several studios abroad including China, Taiwan, Phillipines, and Korea. While on assignment in the east, Mr. Roesch painted a series of watercolor paintings. This he has continued to do in his travels throughout Germany, Russia, Czech Republic, France, Italy, and Spain.
The wagons that are in the paintings below were found abandoned in different parts of Ron's travels across the United States. From Laguna Beach to Los Angeles, and Utah to Maine these relics represent a horse-drawn America. The medium is egg tempera. This opaque medium is water-based but has a lot of characteristics like oil. It will last 1000 years, and is a technique used by some of the art masters of the 16th century.
